When it opened in 1994, and for several years after that, Centro Cocina Mexicana was one of the coolest, most interesting and delicious restaurants in midtown.

Pollo en Mole Negro includes plantains, asparagus and rice served with pan-roasted chicken.

Asada de Puerco is one of several ways Centro showcases its excellent pork dishes.

Centro’s signature ceviche is served as an appetizer.

Peruvian cuisine turns an ordinary waffle house into something special in Sacramento’s restaurant scene.

The soups at Machu Picchu can be shared with two or more at the table or enjoyed as a meal for one.

The causas are fun, delicious and eyecatching – mashed potatoes served with layers of either chicken or shrimp and topped with a boiled egg.

The delicious ceviche is one of the most popular dishes at Machu Picchu, a restaurant inside Waffle King’s on Fulton.

Steak and spaghetti is an example of the sometimes quirky nature of Peruvian cuisine, which has an array of cultural influences.

Todo Un Poco is a singular restaurant brimming with flavors, sizzling with surprises and oozing eccentricity. But the huge menu and inconsistent execution don’t always let us experience the eatery at its best.

Camarones a la Diabla features shrimp sautéed in a spicy blend of Mexican xoastal seasonings, served with black beans and Spanish rice paired with a glass of pinot grigio at Todo Un Poco Mexican & Italian Bistro in Elk Grove. It’s one of the stars on the vast Todo Un Poco menu.

Churros with ice cream paired with chamuco – coffee with coffee liquor and chocolate whipped cream – are among the restaurant’s menu items.

Nachos con chorizo, a classic appetizer of chips, melted cheese, chorizo, a trio of salsas, green, red, and white with black beans, refried beans and tons of other wonderful ingredients like pickled jalapenos paired with a Modelo Special at Todo Un Poco Mexican & Italian Bistro in Elk Grove.
